Knife, Smoke Bomb Attack in Taipei Leaves Three Dead

(MENAFN) Local reports from Taiwan’s capital, Taipei, revealed that a man armed with a knife and smoke bombs carried out a deadly assault on Friday, killing at least three people and injuring nine others.

The incident began during the evening rush hour when the suspect hurled smoke bombs at one of the metro station exits and then randomly stabbed commuters with a knife. One victim suffered cardiac arrest, while two others later died from their wounds.

According to a media outlet, the 27-year-old suspect attempted to flee but jumped from a building while being chased by police. He was taken to a hospital, where he later died.

Footage circulating on social media showed the attacker dressed in what appeared to be body armor and a mask, wielding a long knife and throwing smoke bombs from a backpack.

A news agency reported that the suspect had an outstanding warrant earlier this year after failing to update his residence registration and missing his mandatory draft notice, citing information from the local District Prosecutor’s Office.

Authorities noted that the rampage had begun earlier in the day, when the suspect set fire to his home and vehicles before heading to the metro station.
